and here's a report from someone who went, someone who used to live in Hawaii:

"You didn't miss much food-wise! No special food from Hawaii. No heavy pupus. They did have chips and refried beans, a dish of cheeses and grapes, finger sandwiches ( choice of ham/cheese and tuna fish), a cold pasta dish (gnocchi?), triangles of quesadilla, and cookies. There was a bar serving wine and soft drinks. I ran into R_ C_ and G_ T_ (ever met him?). The two new congress people were there, of course. Eni Faleomavaega, the Rep. from Samoa, spoke ( I came too late to hear). Sen. Inoue said a few words. (Looking frail, I think he's over 80, but what a speaking voice!) A lot of young congressional aide types. The room was small and crowded-maybe 80-100 people there at its fullest. I stayed about 45 minutes (enough time to eat!). At least now I know where the building is-3rd down the hill from the Capitol South Metro"
